4J School Local Option Levy: Ballot Measure 20-301
2019 Voters Pamphlet:
The Eugene Area Chamber of Commerce believes that a quality public K-12 education is critical to the health of our community and local economy.
Ballot Measure 20-301 would renew a local option levy that is critical for the Eugene School District to maintain school days, programs, and staffing levels. The Eugene Chamber recognizes the importance of these funds and supports the measure for the following reasons:
Ballot Measure 20-301 will be on the May 2019 election ballot. This measure will ask voters in the Eugene 4J School District to renew a five-year local option levy that will provide an estimated $17 million per year to fund 4J school operations, programs and staff. Measure 20-301 would renew the levy at the same tax rate for another five years through June 2025.
The local option levy is a property tax that provides funds equivalent to about 9% of the 4J general fund budget.
Under Oregon property tax law, a local option levy is the only tool the school district has to allow the community to increase funding for local school operations. This levy has been approved by voters three times beginning in 2000. The current levy expires in 2015.
Both the Eugene Chamber’s Local Government Affairs Council and Board of Directors unanimously voted to support the 4J Local Option Levy, Measure 20-301.
The Eugene Area Chamber of Commerce has supported all previous Local Option Levies and renewals in 2000, 2004, 2008, 2011 and 2014.
